January 1, 2011 ~ Happy Pink New Year’s Day!

My Pink Saturday post today is dedicated in memory of my mom. This holiday is a time of joyous celebration in saying good-bye to the past year on New Year’s Eve and at midnight we welcome in the New Year with the hope of good things. For me the holiday is not as joyous as is once was because my mother passed away on New Year’s Day in 2009. Mom was a sweet, loving, fun person and she loved to celebrate with her family. I will miss her forever…

For as long as I can remember we celebrate New Year’s Day here in Pennsylvania by watching the Philadelphia’s Mummers Parade on TV and eating a meal of pork, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut.

Happy New Year Everyone!

  4. Happy New Year Sweetie...
What a beautiful share of your heart today. I know your sweet Momma is shining down on you and smiling, as she knows you are strong, and you are still moving forward sweet one.

I have never heard of Mummer's Parade, so I will be checking out that link and reading about it. I see they like pink and black. I love learning new things each day. Thank you for sharing with me sweetie.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow and saying some prayers for you to get through the day. Baby steps sweet friend. Pull those memories from the shelf, we always have our memories.

Many hugs to you sweet friend and SO much love for the New Year, Sherry

  6. Linda, thank you for sharing your post. I can relate to the holiday season. I lost my father to cancer many years ago, but the holidays just aren't quite the same without him. I always feel like a little piece of me is missing. I can't wait to learn more about the Philly Mummers, thanks for the link. Have a wonderful New Year!
    Hugs, LisaKay

  11. We lived in Allentown for a few years and always loved the Mummer's Parade tradition. One day we were actually there AFTER the parade. It was our first year in PA and we didn't know what had happened to create such a mess.

Happy New Year and Happy Pink Saturday!
