My Pink Saturday post today is dedicated in memory of my mom. This holiday is a time of joyous celebration in saying good-bye to the past year on New Year’s Eve and at midnight we welcome in the New Year with the hope of good things. For me the holiday is not as joyous as is once was because my mother passed away on New Year’s Day in 2009. Mom was a sweet, loving, fun person and she loved to celebrate with her family. I will miss her forever…
For as long as I can remember we celebrate New Year’s Day here in Pennsylvania by watching the Philadelphia’s Mummers Parade on TV and eating a meal of pork, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut.

Happy New Year Everyone!
Please visit our P.S. hostess, Beverly at “How Sweet The Sound,” and link up with other Pink Saturday participants.
Loosing a parent is something that eases with time, but the missing just never goes away!
ReplyDeleteI hope you will have a New Year filled with everything good!

I have never heard of Mummer's Parade, so I will be checking out that link and reading about it. I see they like pink and black. I love learning new things each day. Thank you for sharing with me sweetie.
I will be thinking of you tomorrow and saying some prayers for you to get through the day. Baby steps sweet friend. Pull those memories from the shelf, we always have our memories.

ReplyDeleteLinda, thank you for sharing your post. I can relate to the holiday season. I lost my father to cancer many years ago, but the holidays just aren't quite the same without him. I always feel like a little piece of me is missing. I can't wait to learn more about the Philly Mummers, thanks for the link. Have a wonderful New Year!

I know how hard it is when we miss the ones we love. She will always live in our memories. I hope you all have a wonderful New Year.
ReplyDeleteWe lived in Allentown for a few years and always loved the Mummer's Parade tradition. One day we were actually there AFTER the parade. It was our first year in PA and we didn't know what had happened to create such a mess.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year and Happy Pink Saturday!
So sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. What a sad time this must be for you. Best Wishes for the upcoming year!
